Is it possible to find good shopping deals in Los Angeles that are as good as those in New York?

Everyone seems to go to New York for shopping. When I went I had no idea where to go and what the hype was about. Back in LA is there anything similar? I am tired of malls selling the same crp that doesn't even look cute these days. I can't afford Rodeo drive, where is everyone shopping????? Fill me in please.
